10 Things I Have Learned Over My 8 Years of Being Natural

1. Never make a bet and put your hair on the line (see here for full story).

2. If you are doing a vinegar rinse in the shower DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT do it the same day you shave your legs. That is unless you have been reading 50 Shades of Gray  and want to get into S&M and enjoy the feeling of your legs being on fire.

3. Do not use a too hot flat iron. It will result in heat damage. Try to use the lowest heat setting as possible. Also, dont flat iron your hair 2 and 3 times a week. Once a week is all you should do. To maintain straight roots you should apply tension to your hair. That can mean a tight pony tail at night that will keep your hair stretched tight so it won't revert.

4. Put a satin hair cover thingy  over your car seat headrest. It helps with the friction of your hair constantly rubbing against the headrest. It will help with breakage in the back of your head.

Good for the bed and the car.
  5. Hair color will in some way damage your hair. If you color your hair, be prepared to use 3x's the amount of moisture and sealing products.

6. When you wear your afro out be careful around trees.  Also be wary of babies pulling on your hair. Babies love natural hair.

7. Sometimes you just need to do the Big Chop. Again. I have BC'd 3 times.

8. Good hair starts from the inside. Eat a healthy diet with lots of fruits, veggies, and lots of fats like avocado and olive oil.

9. Hair accessories are life savers for TWA's. Also the bigger your hair, the bigger the accessory should be in my opinion.

10. If your man does not like your hair in it's natural state LEAVE HIM! Quick.

Bonus: If your man will help you braid, wash, big chop, or color you hair...he is a keeper!

Hey Ladies (and Men)! Got any more tips and lessons learned to add?
